Rules

If possible, the butt is north of the shooter (in the Northern Hemisphere). In a line of butts, the butts are placed 4 to 6 yards apart. A flag hung on a pole extending 2 to 3 feet from the butt, to indicate wind direction, may be placed on at least every third butt. The number of the butt may be displayed on a paper 30 centimeters by 30 cm hanging from the bottom of the butt.

The butt is tilted backward 15 degrees from the vertical. Dead center is 130 cm above the ground.

Two sizes of face are used: 122 centimeters, and for the 50 meter and 30 meter distances, 80 centimeters. The target is divided into 10 zones, 6.1 cm wide on the 122 cm targets and 4 cm wide on the 80 cm targets.

The recurve target is 122 centimeters in diameter with the 10-ring being 12.2 centimeters. The compound target is 80 centimeters in diameter with the 10-ring measuring 8 centimeters.

Different rounds and distances use different size target faces. Common sizes (and example rounds they are used in) are:

  • 16 40 cm (16 in) (18 m [20 yd] WA Indoor Compound)
  • 24 60 cm (24 in) (18 m [20 yd] WA Indoor Recurve)
  • **** 31 80 cm (31 in) (30 and 50 m [33 and 55 yd] WA)***
  • 48 122 cm (48 in) (70 and 90 m [77 and 98 yd] WA)

122 centimetres (48 in) faces are used in Olympic competition. A variant of the 80-centimetre (31 in) face, called a "Spot" may be used when shooting WA rounds. This variant shows only the inner 6 rings of a full 80-centimetre (31 in) face. There are also versions of the 40-and-60-centimetre (16 and 24 in) targets known as the "3 Spot". The targets contain 3 instances of the inner 5 rings of the 40-and-60-centimetre (16 and 24 in) faces arranged in a line or an equilateral triangle. This is to stop competitors from damaging their own arrows by shooting a "robin hood".

Make From PVC Drain Pipe? Would be light and weather proof.
Have used chicken wire for over 15 yrs. with no problems.

I've made many targets and some of the best, longest lasting targets I have made have been with chicken wire. Use 2x12's and Build any size frame you want. Put the chicken wire on the front and back then pack old clothing in to it. When done you can pin any target you want to it. I'v never had a problem with wire (chicken wire) damaging my arrows

I used plastic chicken wire on my target and it works pretty good. It doesn't last as long as the metal wire, but it is a lot easier on arrows. I have to replace the
:elch:No arrow damage ,your tips are made out of STEAL, as to wet clothing you need it in a covered area or put a roof on it. When I build them I go to a bedding store and look by the dumpster for the very large bags that mattresses come in (most stores are happy to get rid of the bags ) I put 2 in as liners and fill the bags in the frame .the lower 6 inches with plastic and the top 6 inches all the rest with tea shirts and the like (remove all zippers& buttons and don't use jeans) I also add old carpet to the back as added support. use burlap from the garden center for facing:archer:plastic wire on my target about twice a year and I shoot a lot.~$2.48

International target archery competitions feature archers using recurve and compound bows.

Archers in both competition categories shoot at the traditional five-colour target face with 10 concentric scoring rings. The target scores 10 points for the inner ring and one point for the outer ring. The yellow rings score 10 and nine points, red rings score eight and seven points, blue rings score six and five points, black rings score four and three points, and the white rings score two points and one point. Missing the target scores zero points.

Recurve archers shoot over a distance of 70 metres at a target face measuring 122 centimetres in diameter, with a 10-ring measuring 12.2 centimetres in diameter.

Compound archers shoot over a distance of 50 metres at a target face measuring 80 centimetres in diameter, with a 10-ring measuring 8 centimetres in diameter. The outer four rings of the target face are usually removed, leaving only the yellow, red and blue rings.
